Tree Identification TrailTree Identification Trail

A rich diversity of native North Carolina trees grow along the pedestrian trails in RTP. The Tree Identification Trail is currently marked in the section between Development Drive and Kit Creek Road near Davis Drive, including:

    Sugar Maple (Acer saccharum)
    Smooth alder (Alnus serrulata)
    Mockernut Hickory (Carya tomentosa)
    Georgia Hackberry (Celtis tenuifolia)
    Fringetree (Chionanthus virginicus)
    Flowering Dogwood (Cornus florida)
    Black Walnut (Juglans Nigra)
    Red Cedar (Juniperus virginiana)
    Blackgum (Nyssa sylvatica)
    American Hophornbeam (Ostrya virginiana)
    Sourwood (Oxydendron arboreum)
    Southern Pine (Pinus echinata)
    Loblolly Pine (Pinus taeda)
    Sycamore (Platanus occidentalis)
    White Oak (Quercus alba)
    Southern Red Oak (Quercus falcata)
    Blackjack Oak (Quercus marilandica)
    Northern Red Oak (Quercus rubra)
